Introduction

The largest and most important archaeological center in Lima. This area contains more than 50 architectural structures, many built with bricks and quarry stones of various sizes. Pachacamac was the most important center of the coast for more than 1500 years.

It is located in the Lurin Valley. It originally reached its first peak with the Lima culture (200-650 AD). Then it occurred during the Middle Horizon period with the Wari culture (650-1100 AD), at that time it was a religious center.

Then Ychsma (1100 – 1470 AD) built the Painted Temple. Finally, the Incas (1470 – 1532 AD) built the Temple of the Sun and the Acllawasi.

None of the buildings that resemble those of the Machu Picchu Sanctuary as some travelers explain, with its 16 pyramids will surprise you. This resort fulfilled administrative functions. It is the oldest construction site. This set of small adobe mud bricks placed in vertical rows. The site was used as a cemetery. Today Pachacamac is one of the main tourist attractions of Lima and an important center of studies and research, this city is located half an hour from Lima.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Pachacamac Ruins Tour Full Day Tour

We will pick up our travelers from their hotel at the indicated time to go in our tourist bus to the valley of Lurin south of Lima about 32 km and 45 minutes by bus. On the way the guide will give us a brief information about the ancient and contemporary Lima.

Upon arrival to Pachacamac we will visit the Pyramidal Temple, from the top we will have a view of the valley and the Pacific Ocean, the huge pilgrimage square, the Temple of the Sun, the Aclla Wasi and the site museum of Pachacamac where we will find ceramics, textiles and in one of the halls a carving in wood that is said to represent the image of the god Pachacamac. On the way back from the tour we will make a stop in Barranco where the famous Bridge of Sighs is located. Our transportation will take us to Lima.

Pachacamac the oldest oracle belonging to the Inca mythology, main place to worship the god Wiracocha. It is considered the largest archaeological site in Lima and of great importance in the Inca empire. Pachacamac comes from Quechua Pacha “Earth” Kamac “creator” hence “Creator of the Earth” or “soul of the earth”.
